For Christmas, Che and I were gifted a Yonanas machine. If you’re not sure what I’m on about, a Yonana is a fruit ice-cream maker that turns frozen fruit into a creamy dessert. Its a great alternative to ice-cream for anyone who is trying to be more health conscious, also great for vegans as well as anyone who is dairy free or lactose intolerant. This has been perfect for making use of any fruit thats been getting a bit too ripe in the fruit bowl.
The machine isn’t too big so it won’t take up a lot of room on the kitchen bench. Also, its really easy to clean. Check out a vid of how it works here.
Below are some recipes that Che and I use on the reg but you can totally experiment with whatever fruit you happen to have. For a more creamy taste use frozen bananas as a base and then add any fruit that you like. Otherwise if you’re after more of a sorbet texture then go with pineapple as a base fruit.
Peanut Butter and Mixed Berries Ice-Cream see photo above
2 frozen bananas (make sure you peel the banana before freezing)
1 cup frozen mixed berries
1T peanut butter
1. Add frozen bananas and strawberries to the Yonanas machine, alternate the layering of the fruit when processing so they all mix together.
2. Stir in the peanut butter and enjoy!
Pineapple and Mango Sorbet This is my favourite!
1 cup frozen pineapple – remove outer rind and chop up into small cubes before freezing.
1 frozen mango – remove skin, chop up and take out seed before freezing.
1. Add frozen pineapple and mango to the Yonanas machine, again layering the fruit so that the flavors mix together.
2. Put it in a fancy lil cocktail glass and enjoy!
I was dying for a smoothie one hot afternoon so I decided to use my Yonanas to make the base of the smoothie. I blended the below frozen fruits in the machine and then transferred to a blender and mixed with a cup of almond milk – delicious!
