ROAD TRIP : UP NORTH

cover

Hooray its my first post of 2014! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Years!

I spent Christmas in Taranaki on Che’s family farm in Tataraimaka which is about a 20 minute drive out of New Plymouth. We got to do lots of fun stuff like land yachting, playing tennis, swimming and lounging in the spa. There was a mean as flying fox on the farm however on my first attempt I had a bit of a ‘Minties Moment’, Che put this vid together to capture it all lol.

For New Years eve I headed to Rhythm & Vines in Gisborne with friends. Lots of fun was had with plenty of in-jokes made, check out Lani Says for pics of our night.

After we got back from Gizzy, we were feeling like heading off on a roadtrip again, Auckland was pretty dead. So we headed up to the far north for the weekend to Ahipara where Che has a family house opposite 90mile beach. One of our favourite places to visit along the way is the Karikari Peninsula for the beautiful beaches. Usually we just head for Matai Bay but this time we also checked out other beaches along the peninsula. The water is so clear up there and feels so fresh that it seems like you could be mistaken for being on a remote tropical island. We really do live in a beautiful country.

It was recommended that we also visit Lake Rotopokaka which locals have renamed as the Coca-Cola Lake due to the water being the colour of Coke. Peat and tannins in the area have coloured the lake however it is perfectly clean, safe to drink and apparently has healing properties.
