I’d been dying to go to Orleans down at Britomart for awhile but with so many new restaurants popping up in Auckland these days it’s hard to keep up with them all and find the time. I finally made it there over a week ago with Lani, we were both not feeling 100% and just felt like some comfort food so it was the perfect excuse to go.
Upon arrival we were seated straight away without a booking which was lucky. There’s a bar located at the front and also middle of the restaurant which is handy I thought if heading to a concert at Vector and wanting a quick drink before hand. Located at the back of the restaurant is a stage where they have live jazz and blues bands playing every night.
We ordered the jalapeno corn bread to start, it’s probably the best corn bread I’ve had so far in Auckland but we agreed it was still not up to American standards, definitely not sweet enough. Next up I had the cornflake buttermilk fried chicken with waffle and had curly fries on the side which came with a yum chipotle mayo, both dishes were super tasty. For dessert, we shared the baked cheesecake with bruleed banana and butterscotch, the slice was on the tiny side so I would recommend ordering your own – it’s too delicious to share anyways! We also tried the ‘Pie of the Day’ which was pecan pie, this was quite dry so stick to the cheesecake if you’re after something sweet.
I’ll definitely be heading back for more, I’m keen to try the fried okra and fried chicken po boy!
